Can I decide during the event who is allowed to start the next section?

Yes. This is what the section start
type and start time controls:
Start times can be added or changed at any point, including mid-event.
Important: a start time you assign mid-event has to reach the competitor's device. They open My Events in the RBR app and it downloads automatically - but that needs a mobile connection at that moment. If the decision point is out of coverage, prefer Open Rolling Start, or assign the start times in advance and control access on the ground. See riding with poor or no internet connection.

You approve each competitor
- Standing or Rolling Start with Time Window
- You set a start time for each competitor individually
- No start time assigned = the section never unlocks in the RBR app
- Assign it when the competitor qualifies - finished previous section, a cutoff time, a technical check, a safety decision, etc
Competitors start themselves
- Open Rolling Start
- You set one global start time for the section
- It unlocks for everybody at that time; anyone who wants to ride it, rides it
- Nothing for you to do while the event is running

Note: “Maximum time allowed” on a section is a nominal time setting - it decides how a slow or unfinished ride is scored. It does not stop anyone from starting the next section. To enforce a cutoff, use the start type and withhold the start time.
