Nominal Time is used to assign a standard result time to competitors who couldn't complete a section normally
(DNS, DNF, or late finish scenarios). It ensures fairness by giving them a standard time and allows them to
remain in the overall results.
When to use it:
Set Nominal Time if you want to handle DNS/DNF/late cases fairly and automatically. It’s essential for rallies
with strict timing, results, or penalties. P.S. Competitors without a recorded finish (ASS) time or nominal
time will not appear in the overall results.
Nominal Time Types:
- Fixed time (static): A predetermined absolute time value set by the organizer
- Winner's time + X minutes/seconds: Calculated by adding a specified time to the
winner’s section time.
For example: All competitors who arrive more than 5 minutes after the section winner receive the
winner’s time + 5 minutes.
When Nominal Time is Applied:
You can choose to apply nominal time to one, two, or all three scenarios in the event itinerary section
settings. When nominal
time is applied depends on these situations:
- DNS (Did Not Start): When a competitor fails to start the section
- The timing marshal must set the competitor's status to DNS.
- The system will set total time equal to nominal time.
- DNF (Did Not Finish): When a competitor starts but cannot complete the section
- The timing marshal must set the competitor's status to DNF.
- The system will set total time equal to nominal time, ignoring all WP penalties (you can
decide to ignore other
penalty types too (e.g., speeding, no STOPs)).
- Late Finish: When a competitor finishes but exceeds the maximum time allowed for the
section
- The timing marshal does not need to take any action.
- The system will set total time equal to nominal time, ignoring all WP penalties (you can
decide to ignore other
penalty types too (e.g., speeding, no STOPs)).
